An inaccessible site now
comes with a real cost.
In June 2026, the Caen Commercial Court rejected 71% RGAA compliance as insufficient and ordered Carrefour to make its website and mobile app fully accessible within 6 months. The EU's Accessibility Act is now actively enforced — especially for businesses serving France.
What does our accessibility work cover?
From audit to code, from code to the legally required statement page — every layer of RGAA and WCAG compliance in one package.
RGAA / WCAG Audit
Full site scan against 106 RGAA criteria (overlapping with WCAG 2.1 AA), with a prioritized findings report.
Contrast & Visual Compliance
Color contrast ratios, text readability, and alt text for images.
Keyboard Navigation
Access to every function (menus, forms, checkout) without a mouse, with a logical focus order.
Screen Reader Compatibility (ARIA)
Real testing with NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver; semantic HTML and correct ARIA labeling.
Form & Interaction Accessibility
Clear error messages, correct labeling, and consistent focus management.
Accessibility Statement
Preparation and publication of the accessibility statement page required under RGAA.
From audit to compliance in 5 steps.
Full compliance, not partial — as the Carrefour case showed, "close enough" isn't enough.
Audit
We scan your site against 106 RGAA criteria, backed by screen reader and keyboard testing. We produce a written audit report.
Prioritized Roadmap
We rank findings Critical → High → Medium → Low; timeline and scope become clear after this.
Implementation
Code-level fixes: contrast, alt text, ARIA labeling, keyboard navigation, form labels.
Verification Testing
We don't rely on automated scanner reports alone — we verify results with real screen reader and keyboard testing.
Accessibility Statement & Monitoring
We publish the required statement page and recommend periodic re-checks.
Not a compliance checkbox — real accessibility.
Not an automated scanner report — a usable, verified result.
We track the EU's agenda
We follow the European Accessibility Act, RGAA updates, and precedent rulings like the Carrefour case closely.
No need for a separate vendor
We work under the same roof as our web design team — audit through implementation, handled by one team.
Not just an automated scanner
We verify with real screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) and keyboard testing.
Every criterion documented
The status of each of the 106 RGAA criteria (pass / fail / not applicable) is reported in writing.
Frequently asked questions.
RGAA (Référentiel Général d'Amélioration de l'Accessibilité) is France's official digital accessibility standard, made up of 106 technical criteria that largely overlap with WCAG 2.1 AA. A site is only considered RGAA-compliant if it meets all of these criteria.
The EU's European Accessibility Act (2019/882) took effect in June 2025 and was transposed into French consumer law. In June 2026, the Caen Commercial Court ruled that Carrefour — whose website and mobile app it found insufficiently accessible — must reach full compliance within 6 months or face a €500 daily penalty, plus ordered €10,000 in damages. It's the first accessibility ruling against a retailer in the EU.
No. In the Carrefour case, the company argued that 71% RGAA compliance was sufficient; the court rejected that argument — accessibility is an "obligation of result", partial compliance isn't accepted. The target is all 106 criteria.
It depends on your site's size and current state. We start with a free audit to establish your current compliance level and a prioritized roadmap — timeline and scope become clear after that.
The primary risk is concentrated among e-commerce and digital service companies serving the EU (especially France), but accessibility is also a good user-experience and broader-reach standard — it adds value to any site, regardless of sector or market.
The Carrefour ruling covered both the website and the mobile app — the first ruling under the EU's accessibility regime to explicitly cover a mobile app. We audit and implement for both web and mobile.
